The length of the country, planned as long work from the start rather than treated as a local job with a drive on the end.
Long-distance moves fail in a specific and predictable way: somebody quotes them as a local move with extra mileage. The mileage is the least of it. What actually changes is the crewing, the running order, and whether the whole thing honestly fits into one day.
What distance actually changes
Crewing
A long drive plus a full unload is not one crew's day. Either the crew size changes, or the job becomes two days, or both. Driving-hours rules are not negotiable and a schedule that ignores them is not a schedule.
Running order
On any move, what comes off last has to go on first. Over a long distance that matters more, because there is no opportunity to nip back for the thing that ended up behind everything else.
Whether it is one day
This is the question customers most want a straight answer to and most often get a hopeful one. We answer it at survey. Where it is genuinely a two-day job, the load stays secure on the vehicle overnight or goes into store, and the quote says which of those it is.
Packing changes too
More hours on the road means more vibration. Anything already fragile, veneered, glazed or stone-topped gets more than the standard blanket treatment on a long run, and it is loaded so nothing bears on a face. It is a small part of the cost and it is the part that decides whether things arrive in the state they left in.
Multi-address collections
Households heading a long way are frequently split across two places — a family home and a rented flat, or a house and a unit somewhere else. We collect from more than one address routinely. Say so in the brief and the route and timing are costed from the start.
Storage as part of a long move
Long moves rarely line up neatly at both ends. Storage bridges the gap: the load is packed, wrapped, inventoried and held, then delivered when the new property is genuinely ready. It is usually cheaper and considerably less stressful than trying to make two completion dates agree across three hundred miles.

Practically, anything where the drive plus a full load and unload will not comfortably fit into one crew's working day. That is less about a mileage threshold than about what is at each end — a simple bungalow four hours away can be a one-day job where a four-bed two hours away is not.
Is it one day or two?
That is exactly the question the survey answers, and we give you a straight answer rather than an optimistic one. Where it is genuinely two days, the load stays secure on the vehicle or goes into store overnight, and the quote says which.
Does distance really change the price?
Yes, and we keep it as a visible input rather than folding it into the volume. Crewing changes, the running order changes, and on the longest runs the number of days changes. Hiding that just makes two quotes impossible to compare.
Can you collect from two places on the way?
Yes, and on long moves it is common — a family home and a rented flat, or a house and a storage unit somewhere else entirely. Mention every address in the brief so the route is costed from the start rather than added later.
Do you go to Scotland, Wales and the far south-west?
Yes. Those are planned as multi-day work where that is the honest answer, and we will say so at survey rather than promising a single day and discovering otherwise at six in the evening.
